The 2024VOLVOXC60 carries 24 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 6 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2024 XC60 is electrical system with 5 filings, followed by unknown or other (3) and back over prevention: rearview system braking (3). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 28 investigation files overlapping the 2024 XC60. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

All of the audio warnings in the car suddenly stop working without any associated warning. On certain occasions (once every couple of months, unpredictably) the car's audio completely stops working. This includes any of the safety warnings such as the parking collision or rear cross traffic warnings. The audio starts working again after resetting the infotainment system by holding down the "Home" button for 30 seconds. The service department at the dealership appeared to be very familiar with this issue but did not have any proposed fixes.

My car periodically shuts down while on highway and once a week is completely dead and requires a jump or a tow. I have brought this to the dealerships attention for over 18 months and they continue to tell me that the problem is fixed. The car shut down and was completely dead again this week. No one from NA Volvo has ever called me back when I report the problem or has responded to countless inquiries.

I decided to clean off my windshield with the windshield wiper spray and wipers and noticed my windshield would not turn on at all. I heard no noise from the motor coming on nothing happened when I attempted to turn them on. I knew rain was coming in the next few days so I was worried I was going to have visibility issues. Contacted the dealer who stated they had no loaner available. I had to drive in the rain with no windshield wipers. When I finally dropped my vehicle off to get serviced and explained the issue, the tech explained this has been a common with issue with many people especially because of the snow, he states âpeople keep turning the wipers on with snow on the windshield.â He also said his 6 month old Volvo had the same issue. However, I have never turned my windshield wipers on after snow without removing the snow off first so this was not the case. With multiple issues with different people, the tech issueâs with his own 6 month old car it sounded like a recall i

Brakes sometimes do not engage when parked and putting the car into drive or reverse gears. The car performs automatic brake checks when the car is parked. Sometimes, if I happen to press the brake pedal as one of these checks is starting, the brake pedal doesnât press down all the way. I can still start the car though and put it into drive or reverse while pressing the brake pedal until it stops, though the pedal only depresses partway. Once the car is in drive or reverse, it rolls 1-2 feet, with my foot still pressing the brake pedal, before the brake actually engages. This has happened twice in the past 3 weeks. I am using the latest Volvo car software.

In April 2025, the engine on our 2024 Volvo XC60 B5 Plus AWD failed suddenly with only 7,000 miles on the vehicle. The vehicle is leased and under full factory warranty. Volvoâs dealership confirmed the engine requires a full OEM replacement. However, our insurer, State Farm, is refusing to authorize a new OEM engine and is instead forcing the installation of a salvaged engine from a wrecked vehicle. This creates significant safety risks: ⢠The salvaged engineâs crash history and internal integrity are unknown and cannot be verified. ⢠It bypasses Volvoâs safety testing and voids the factory warranty, removing manufacturer oversight for future issues. ⢠The use of non-OEM parts violates the lease and risks improper compatibility or undetected damage, affecting vehicle safety and reliability. The original dealership admitted they never performed a full internal inspection of the failed engine, relying only on spark plug checks and a borescope scan. State Farm denied covera
The infotainment center in this vehicle controls multiple features including HVAC, mapping, etc. Mine reboots 3-10 times per day. This causes windows to fog, consule and speed to go blank along with many other important features. I've had it in the shop multiple times and finally they told me that Volvo won;t replace under warranty unless it fully crashes. This isn;t living up to their written warranty and is a safety hazard.
I was backing up out of my driveway and the camera was not available, nor did the sensor work while I was backing up. I hit a parked car as a result of this, resulting in damage to the back of my car. This has happened before, but never resulted in an accident until this time.

The contact owns a 2024 Volvo XC60. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the transmission intermittently failed to shift once the vehicle was shut off after it was already on for a long period of time. No warning light was illuminated however, the infotainment screen and the dashboard darkened. The failure occurred on several different occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to get a diagnosis; the dealer stated that the failure cause was unidentifiable. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that almost two months later the failure occurred again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to get a second diagnosis. Once again, the dealer stated that the failure cause was unidentifiable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,324.

The sound system of the vehicle failed. No alerts for cross path detection, no parking alerts, no Bluetooth calling, no gps guidance, no turn signal sound, no ability to call through the sos feature, and no radio. There is no value to the safety features because there is no audible alert for anything. The when you select radio after listening to Bluetooth audio it glitches and turns back to the prior audio source 5-7 times prior to allowing you to stay on the selected source (again no sound so less important of an issue). In addition, the park button doesnât always work. There are times that I need to press it 3-5 times to put the car in park. The ability to be hands free and use the Bluetooth and navigation functions is non existent. The sarasota Volvo dealer walked me through trying to reset the system over the phone but it didnât work. We have an appointment scheduled in two days to look at the car. No warning signs or alerts came up.

I was backing into my garage in reverse gear when there was a sudden power surge and the car accelerated rapidly backwards (without me pushing the gas pedal), which led to a crash that caused substantial damage to the car. The car was out of my control, with it accelerating without reason, so something failed on the car. I do not know what component failed, only that there was a sudden and rapid acceleration in reverse. There are no warning lights and the car was taken for an estimate and damages exceed $10,000.
