THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CONTAINED THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY DEALER ON TWO ADDITIONAL VISITS WITH SAME CONCERN. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. TOOK VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO MADE AN ADJUSTMENT TO TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE AGAIN LURCHING AND SLIPPING. TOOK TO MECHANIC AND INFORMED A SERVICE REPORT NOW INDICATED WE NEEDED TO REPLACE A VALVE ASSEMBLY. COST: $1,100-

TRAVELING UNDER 60MPH IN CENTER LANE ON DRY PAVEMENT . WENT TO MERGE INTO LEFT LANE. SAW CAR APPROACHING . WHILE GETTING BACK INTO CENTER LANE IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE- UNABLE TO STEER AS WHEEL PULLED AND LOCKED TO THE RIGHT AND CAR SIMULTANEOUSLY STARTED TO HOP ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL.
