Volvo Cars USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2001-2007 V70 and XC70 vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

THE CONTACT TURNED THE SEAT HEATER OFF AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS TOLD THAT THE SEAT HEATER WAS NOT BURNT AND THAT SOMETHING UNDER THE SEAT MUST HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE. MY WIFE, ELLEN, SUFFERED A CONCUSSION WHEN HER HEAD STRUCK THE HANDHOLD ABOVE HER AS SHE WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WAS HIT IN THE FRONT. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I FOUND MYSELF BUMPING MY HEAD AGAINST THESE HANDHOLDS EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THESE HANDHOLDS OBVIOUSLY INTRUDE INTO THE HEADSPACE OF THE AUTOMOBILE. I AM SURPRISED THAT VOLVO WOULD USE SUCH IRON-HARD HANDHOLDS WITHOUT PADDING OR WITHOUT A COLLAPSIN
