Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 IN MA AT 65 MPH DURING RUSH-HOUR,WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHATSOEVER, THE ETM LIGHT ON MY 2000 VOLVO XC V70 CAME ON AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER. I NARROWLY ESCAPED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN (AGES 9 AND 1). I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AT MAXIMUM 35 MPH TO THE NEAREST EXIT RAMP AND CALL FOR HELP. THE REPAIRS (REPLACED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE MODULE) COST $1100. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *NM
