The 2000VOLVO700 carries 2 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 700 is service brakes, hydraulic:antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip with 1 filings, followed by visibility:windshield (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 28 investigation files overlapping the 2000 700. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR GLASS SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY IMPLODED COMPLETELY INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE WINDOW SHATTERED AND BLEW ALL TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAB. AT NO TIME DID I SEE ANY ROAD DEBRIS COME UP AT THE WINDOW OR OFF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. NO VEHICLES WERE ONCOMING OR HAD PASSED ME. I RADIOED TO THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AND THEY DID NOT SEE ANY OBJECTS FLY UP OR AT THE WINDOW. THERE WAS NO ONE IN SIGHT IN THE EMPTY FIELDS ALONG SIDE THE HIGHWAY CONSIDERING IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A GUNSHOT. CLEANING UP THE GLASS I FOUND NO DEBRIS INSIDE THE VEHICLE, THINKING IT SHOULD HAVE COME IN WITH THE FORCE AND DIRECTION OF ALL THE GLASS. NOTHING. NO ROCKS, BIRD OR SLUG. THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 60 DEGREES. IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 11:00AM. THE ROAD WAS SMOOTH. ALL OF THE VEHICLES CAB WINDOWS WERE CLOSED.*AK
