Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about SERVICE BRAKES, AIR filed November 12, 2010
NHTSA complaint #825284 (ODI reference 10365440) concerns a 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS and was filed on November 12, 2010. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 29, 2010. The vehicle had 13,500 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to New Jersey based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, air, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. No VIN was supplied by the filer, so this complaint contributes to model-year trend data but cannot be tied to a specific vehicle.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same TOYOTA PRIUS cohort independently describe similar service brakes, air failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT WAS RECALLED FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE AUTOMOBILE JOLTS FORWARD FOR A SPLIT SECOND WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND THE AUTOMOBILE ALSO PASSES OVER A BUMP OR POTHOLE. I TOOK THE AUTOMOBILE BACK TO THE DEALER PURSUANT TO THE RECALL TO BE FIXED. THE DEALER DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM REMAINS EVEN AFTER THE RECALL AND SUPPOSED REMEDY. I HAVE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED BY THE RECALL IN OTHER CHATROOMS. I AM SURE THAT YOU ARE AWARE THAT THE RECALL DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
