Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2008 OUTBACK SPORT is air bags with 3 filings, followed by electronic stability control (esc) (1) and unknown or other (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 14 investigation files overlapping the 2008 OUTBACK SPORT. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

"TAKATA RECALL" MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO "SUBARU OF PLANO" IN PLANO, TX. FOR AN OIL LEAK, WAS THERE FOR 3 WEEKS WHILE I WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. ON THE SECOND TO LAST DAY I LEARNED OF THE AIR BAG RECALL AND CALLED TO INFORM MY SERVICE ADVISOR OF THIS SINCE AT THIS POINT I WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL. GOT A CALL FROM HIM THE NEXT MORNING STATING THAT ALL OF THE REPAIRS HAD BE COMPLETED AND MY CAR WAS READY...? (SOUNDED FISHY TO ME..) ANYHOW, I NOTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY DRIVEN 2 MILES IN THE THREE WEEKS IT WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. NEEDLESS TO SAY I MADE IT A WHOLE 4 MILES BEFORE THE CAR STARTED TO DIE AND TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD... TOOK THE CAR TO A NEAR BY SERVICE CENTER AND FOUND THAT THE DEALERSHIP PUT 2 TIMES THE AMOUNT OF OIL IN THE CAR THAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE WHICH IS CONCERNING BUT WHAT I'M REALLY CONCERNED WITH IS THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME IT TOOK TO INSTALL THE NEW AIRBAG, SINCE THE RECALL DEPARTMENT I ORIGINALLY SPOKE WITH STATED THAT THE PA

WE HAVE RECEIVED NOTICE OVER A MONTH AGO THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS DEFECTIVE AND THAT NO ONE SHOULD RIDE IN SEAT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SUBARU IS OUR ONLY CAR AND WE HAVE 2 CARSEATS IN THE BACK SO IF WE ARE DRIVING AS A FAMILY, WHICH WE DO ON A DAILY BASISS, SOMEONE HAS TO SIT IN THE FRONT. WE CALLED TEH SUBARU TO GET IT FIXED AND WE WERE TOLD IT WAS ON BACKORDER FOR AN UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME. HOW ARE WE RISKING OUR SAFETY WHILE WE WAIT FOR THIS PART? I AM DESIRING TO BE COMPENSATED FRO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I HAVE RECEIVED NO COMMUNICATION FROM SUBARU ABOUT HOW THEY WILL FIX THIS PROBLEM > I CAN'T CONTINUE TO WAIT AND DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE I WORRY ABOUT TEH SAFETY OF ANOTHER ADULT IN TEH CAR KNOWING THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS.

THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ON AFTER IGNITION AND WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL I REPLACED THE MAP LIGHT CONSOLE RECENTLY. PROBLEM SOLVED. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM AS IT AFFECTS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR, I.E., THE AIRBAGS. *TR
