Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about STEERING filed February 19, 2026
NHTSA complaint #2178607 (ODI reference 11719160) concerns a 2024 MAZDA CX-90 and was filed on February 19, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 19, 2026. The report was geocoded to Oklahoma based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as steering, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same MAZDA CX-90 cohort independently describe similar steering failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2024 MAZDA CX-90 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
My vehicle was subject to a 2024 recall for what has been described as "sticky steering." The recall repair was completed by Mazda in April, 2024, however the problem persists. The repair was completed before I purchased the vehicle. When I turn my vehicle to the left or right my steering feels heavy and the steering wheel feels like it is sticky when turning. This does not happen every time I turn my car but it does occur frequently. Speed does not seem to make a difference; I have the problem turning in a parking lot at low speeds or on a highway or road at higher speeds. The date that I provided is the date of the most recent event.
