Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about ENGINE filed February 19, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2178461 (ODI reference 11719059) concerns a 2024 GMC YUKON and was filed on February 19, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 14, 2026. The report was geocoded to Kentucky based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as engine, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same GMC YUKON cohort independently describe similar engine failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The SUV has 46,000 miles on it. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, prompting me to take it to the dealership for servicing. The diagnostic codes retrieved were U0285 and U1345. I was informed that the aero shutter required replacement. There was no physical damage; it merely ceased functioning. The dealership confirmed the active check engine light and conducted a diagnosis. While my safety was not immediately compromised, I felt extremely frustrated upon learning that GM would not cover the repair under warranty, despite this being a recognized issue that GM has yet to address. This situation is simply unacceptable and warrants further investigation and resolution.
