Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING filed November 19, 2024
NHTSA complaint #2041524 (ODI reference 11626159) concerns a 2014 RAM 1500 and was filed on November 19, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on November 1, 2022. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 1500 cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2014 RAM 1500 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
My ABS module and TCS light has been on for several years. I have taken it to the dealer multiple time to have it repaired, only to be told it is on back order. This has been going on for over two years. I have a life time warranty through Chrysler as long as I own the truck. Since the warning lights have been on I have had many instances where my truck has lost control and slipped on the highway most of the time in rain. I have also had my truck lock up once, when a person made a right turn into my lane in front of me, forcing me to hit the breaks. My truck skid through the intersection and almost rear ended the vehicle. I avoid traveling with my family in the truck now.
