Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING filed October 3, 2024
NHTSA complaint #2029574 (ODI reference 11617848) concerns a 2014 RAM 1500 and was filed on October 3, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 30, 2024. The report was geocoded to Alabama based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 1500 cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2014 RAM 1500 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
The antilock brake system module ($1200) is defective and has not been available for more than a year after contacting four dealerships in Alabama and Florida. The antilock brake system warning lights are on the left side of the dash. When the center warning comes up on the dash the truck feels like the rear end is about to lock up and fall off. All the dealers I contacted stated this is a known and long-term problem. I called dodge corporate (1-866-726-4636) and said the modules are being reengineered then manufactured and may be ordered by dealerships after October 16, 2024. They could not guarantee it would be available to order if not I was told to call corporate back, and they would try to find one. I have an appointment to take my vehicle to the dealership due to excessive back logs at all dealerships, The center warning center comes up moments before the backend is affected. The lights on the left side are always on. Currently there are no recalls.
