Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS filed October 6, 2023
NHTSA complaint #1933870 (ODI reference 11548753) concerns a 2023 HYUNDAI TUCSON and was filed on October 6, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 23, 2023. The report was geocoded to West Virginia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: warnings, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same HYUNDAI TUCSON cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: warnings failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2023 HYUNDAI TUCSON shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
Vehicle randomly keeps accelerating past the set speed when cruise control is set. Problem was first noticed in March. Have a video of the cruise set at 69 mph and the vehicle continued to accelerate to 87 mph before I disengaged it. Vehicle has been to two different Hyundai dealers for the issue but were unable to duplicate or find the issue. One moth ago were on a road trip and the cruise would accelerate to 8-10mph over the set speed on the cruise control especially after cresting a hill ,then the adaptive cruise control would brake hard when approaching another vehicle. 0
