Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver with the power steering assist warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering assist needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the local dealer informed him that the repairs would be covered under warranty for the electric power assist steering (EPAS) however, he was then informed by the local dealer that it would be at his own expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also confirmed that the repair would not be covered under warranty and advised him to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.
