NHTSA Complaint about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS:CANISTER filed January 6, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1786905 (ODI reference 11446494) concerns a 2017 FORD FOCUS and was filed on January 6, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 6, 2021. The report was geocoded to South Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel system, gasoline:storage:evaporative emissions:canister, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FOCUS cohort independently describe similar fuel system, gasoline:storage:evaporative emissions:canister failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

My 2017 Ford focus, after fill up the gas tank had difficulty to start on. . I went to the dealer about this issue because the check engine light has pop up, and had the issue each time when fill up the tank. They has told me that the issue was with the CANISTER PURGE VALVE, and will need replace it. I did and pay almost $400. I found in internet the below link that show: FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES RECALL IN NORTH AMERICA FOR SELECT 2012-18 FORD FOCUS VEHICLES FOR MALFUNCTIONING CANISTER PURGE VALVE. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2018/10/25/ford-motor-company-issues-recall-in-north-america-for-select-201.html For me is to much casual that my car in the same range of the year have the issue with the same part reported. Dealer has told me that my car do not have any recall but i think Cars like mine, have the same issue. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
