NHTSA complaint #1765737 (ODI reference 11431044) concerns a 2013 FORD F-150 and was filed on August 30, 2021. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 26, 2021. The vehicle had 83,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Texas based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD F-150 cohort independently describe similar service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The contact's girlfriend owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving through a parking lot at a low rate of speed, the brake pedal hardened as the check brake system warning light appeared on the instrument panel. His girlfriend was forced to apply the parking brake to stop the vehicle. Due to the failure, his girlfriend had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a leak in the front seal master cylinder. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V345000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) which he linked to his girlfriend's failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was not under recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
