NHTSA Complaint about STEERING filed April 14, 2019
NHTSA complaint #1557835 (ODI reference 11196141) concerns a 2011 FORD FUSION and was filed on April 14, 2019. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 22, 2019. The report was geocoded to North Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as steering, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD FUSION cohort independently describe similar steering failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2011 FORD FUSION shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (I HAD MY DAUGHTER AND COUSIN WITH ME), MY WHEEL STARTED PULLING TO THE LEFT HARD. A LIGHT COMES ON SAYING 'SERVICE ADVANCE TRACK NOW'. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THERE IS A RECALL BUT BECAUSE MY CAR IS OVER A CERTAIN MILEAGE THAT IT'S NOT COVERED AND IT'LL COST ME $2000.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND THERE ARE LOTS OF OTHERS THAT'S HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I AM. I'VE CONTACTED FORD SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THIS ISSUE...EVEN THOUGH IT'S UNDER A RECALL. I'D REALLY APPRECIATE IT SOMEONE COULD GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. IT'S DANGEROUS AND NOW I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HOW I'M GOING TO GET WHERE MY KIDS AND I NEED TO GO EVERY DAY.
