The 2011VOLKSWAGENEOS carries 21 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 3 crashes, 0 fires, 2 injuries, and 0 fatalities. For crash performance, NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program gave this cohort an overall Not Rated/5 rating, with Not Rated/5 front crash, Not Rated/5 side crash, and Not Rated/5 rollover scores derived from standardized barrier and dynamic tests.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2011 EOS is air bags with 10 filings, followed by power train (2) and unknown or other (2). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 37 investigation files overlapping the 2011 EOS, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

My ABS/ ESC light was on and the brake light was flashing randomly. After diagnostics it appears the ABS module is intermittently not receiving power. Because of this the ABS/ESC system randomly does not work as it should. This seems to be the same issue as the 16V-913 safety recall, but my car was manufactured on July 14, 2010 which was 33 days after the June 11, 2010 cut off date.

I WAS DRIVING OUT OF TOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY SLOWED TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO GO ABOVE 20 MPH. I PULLED IT OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I RESTARTED AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT GET PAST 20 MPH. WHEN I SWITCHED THE CAR TO MANUAL MODE IT WOULD NOT GO PAST 2ND GEAR. AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SITTING THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY. I CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA I WAS TRAVELING AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" AND THAT VW HAD HAD TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THAT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. I DROVE THE CAR HOME. SEVEN DAYS LATER, THE EXACT THING HAPPENED AND I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHO INFORMED ME "THEY HAD NOT HAD ANY TYPE OF COMPLAINT SIMILAR TO WHAT I WAS DESCRIBING". THEY DID HOWEVER CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC BECAUSE MY CONCERN IS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND HAVING THE CAR ABRUPTLY SLOWING DOWN AND BEING STRUCK FROM BE

TAKATA RECALL. RECEIVE NOTICE THAT I HAVE FAULTY TAKATA AIRBAGS A FEW YEARS AGO. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR LATER I RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT A TEMPORARY REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE THAT WOULD SWAP THE ORIGINAL AIRBAG WITH A REPLACEMENT MODULE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN THAT DID NOT INCLUDE A DRYING AGENT. THAT NOTICE WAS CLEAR THAT THIS WAS ONLY AN INTERIM REPAIR UNTIL A REDESIGNED UNIT IS AVAILABLE. I HAD THE INTERIM REPAIR DONE ON MY VEHICLE. I NOTICED NOW THAT WHEN SEARCHING FOR RECALLS, IT SAYS THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED THE UNDERLYING DESIGN DEFECT, AND BECAUSE THERE IS NOT AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE VEHICLE IT SEEMS THAT AT THIS TIME IT WILL NOT BE FIXED. PLEASE CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AND ENSURE THAT THEY ARE ADDRESSING THE NEEDED REDESIGN OF THE AIRBAG MODULE. THANK YOU
THE CLOCK SPRING IN MY CAR HAS FAILED REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. THIS COMPLETE FAILURE COMES A SHORT 9 MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL 'REPAIR' DONE FOLLOWING A VW RECALL ON THE PART- THEY SIMPLY PLACED A COVER OVER THE ORIGINAL CLOCK SPRING. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART, BECAUSE I HAD THE INITIAL SAFETY CHECK DONE AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL RECALL AND THE PART WAS DEEMED FUNCTIONAL AT THAT POINT- EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE IT WOULD MOST LIKELY EVENTUALLY FAIL.
I RECEIVED A LETTER IN APRIL 2016 REGARDING A TAKATA SDI DRIVER FRONTAL AIRBAG RECALL.. TO DATE NO ONE IS ABLE TO TELL ME WHETHER THE CAR HAS BEEN RECALLED AND IS IN NEED OF REPAIRS. I HAVE CHECKED THE WEBSITE PERIODICALLY BUT FIND IT UNHELPFUL AND CONFUSING. WHAT S GOING ON WITH THE RECALL??
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN EOS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V078000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL ON MY AIRBAG A YEAR AGO, ON FEBRUARY 9, 2016. VW DOES NOT YET HAVE A REPAIR AVAILABLE. I BELIEVE A YEAR WITH A DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS AIRBAG IS TOO LONG TO WAIT.

I RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER BACK IN APRIL REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS. THEY'RE TELLING US THAT THE REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. WE ARE VERY FEARFUL OF DRIVING THE CAR KNOWING THIS COULD IN FACT COULD CAUSE DEATH. WE KNOW THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE NEW CARS WITH AIRBAGS THAT ARE NOT DEFECTIVE, SO THIS IS DISTURBING TO KNOW THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE OLDER MODELS WITH DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS ARE BEING NEGLECTED. THIS IS WRONG! THEY NEED TO FIX THE OLD CARS FIRST BEFORE SELLING NEW CARS! *TR

TAKATA RECALL - THE INTIAL RECALL FOR VW WAS FEBRUAY 2016. SIX MONTHS LATER THERE IS STILL NO REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR AVAILABLE. THERE HAS TO BE MORE THAN ONE COMPANY THAT MAKES AIRBAG INFLATORS! DANGER OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH - SHOULD BE A MOTIVATOR TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.

CAR HAS 72,319 MILES. OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED AT 10,000 MILES OR LESS. THE TENSIONER SPRING BROKE AND THE TIMING BELT SHIFTED CAUSING ALOT OF ENGINE DAMAGE. HOWEVER, I WAS NOTIFIED BY VW DEALERS OR MANUFACTURE ABOUT THE TSB MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATION NO.: TB-15-12-01 COMPONENT(S): ENGINE NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10045560 WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT. I HAVE A $5,300 REPAIR FOR A $120.00 DOLLAR PART! CAN YOU HELP ME WITH A RECALL? THANK YOU. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

MY WIFE WAS SITTING IN HER VEHICLE AT WORK WHEN A DUMP TRUCK WAS BACKING UP TOWARDS HER VEHICLE. SHE TRIED TO ALERT THE TRUCK DRIVER USING THE HORN. THE HORN DID NOT MAKE A SOUND. THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION. AFTER CONTACTING VW DEALER ABOUT THE HORN I WAS TOLD THAT THE KEY HAS TO BE IN THE IGNITION TO POWER THE HORN. I FIND THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO ASKED IF THE AIR BAG WOULD FUNCTION UNDER THE SAME CONDITION AND I WAS TOLD PROBABLY NOT. I COULD THINK OF A SCENARIO WHERE THIS COULD ALSO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT AN ENGINEERING SOLUTION NEEDS TO BE UPDATED FOR A PASSIVE SITUATION SUCH AS IN MY WIVES CASE. *TR
