HE STATED THAT THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER AND SLID INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT STATED A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY DID A CLAIM.

THIS 4RUNNER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIT DIFFICULT TO GET IN AND OUT OF REVERSE. IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL TIRES, AND SOMETIMES MOVING THE CLUTCH IN AND OUT UNTIL YOU GET IT "JUST RIGHT" AND REVERSE IS FOUND. ON 8/22/00 I LEFT IT IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY, A FLAT DRIVEWAY, WHILE I RAN IN THE HOUSE FOR A FORGOTTEN ITEM. I RETURNED ABOUT 20 SECONDS LATER TO SEE THE 4RUNNER BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, ON ITS OWN. IT BACKED ACROSS THE STREET AND UP THE NEIGHBORS STEEP LAWN, THEN WENT BACK INTO NEUTRAL AND ROL
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE, W/O WARNING, TURNED OFF. CONSUMER STARTED ENGINE BACK UP, AND THEN ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING. CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, AND IN LESS THAN 2 MINUTES, ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. ENTIRE FRONT SIDE OF THE HOOD MELTED, INCLUDING THE BATTERY. *AK *ML
REAR DRIVE AXLE BROKE OFF CAUSING ACCIDENT.

WINDSHEILD WIPER SWITCH DESIGN WAS CHANGED THAT CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO BREAK TWO FINGERS AND HAD THEM OPERATE ON. TT
