The 1996SUZUKISUZUKI carries 12 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1996 SUZUKI is exterior lighting:turn signal:switch with 1 filings, followed by air bags (1) and seats (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 9 investigation files overlapping the 1996 SUZUKI. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AUGUST OF 2002. I AM NOW REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER FOR TIME #3. I KNOW FROM THE LAST 2 TIMES THE SLAVE CYLINDER AND CLUTCH WILL ALSO NEED TO BE DONE. THIS IS ABSOLUTLEY HORRID. MY FIRST REPLACEMENTS WERE 1/03 CYLINDERS #1 AND CLUTCH #1, SECOND TIME THE REPAIRS NEEDED TO BE DONE IN SEPTEMBER, HOWEVER DUE TO AN OUT OF STATE MOVE THEY WERE NOT DONE UNTIL 12/03 CYLINDERS #2 AND 1/04 CLUTCH #2. I AM AT MY WITS END ABOUT THIS. I SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT MULTIPLE POWER TRAIN/CLUTCH PROBLEMS AND REPLACEMENTS. MY QUESTION IS THIS: IS SUZUKI LIABLE WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM?*AK
