MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUT 1999 PLYMOUTH VOYAGER HOME FROM WORK AFTER A SNOWSTORM. ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY FROM OUR HOME, HE ATTEMPTED TO TURN A CORNER WHEN HE HIT A SMALL PILE OF SNOW THAT THE PLOWS HAD LEFT BEHIND. THE SERPENTINE BELT CAME OFF FROM THE PULLEYS, CAUSING HIM TO LOSE THE POWER STEERING. WITHOUT TIME TO SLOW DOWN OR STEER HARD ENOUGH TO GET AROUND THE CORNER, HE WENT ACROSS TRAFFIC AND ALMOST HIT A PARKED CAR AND SNOW BANK. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND HAD THE SERPENTINE BELT PUT BACK ON. LAST SPRING WE ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM DURING A RAINSTORM AFTER DRIVING THOUGH SOME PUDDLES. AT THAT TIME THE REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT, THE A/C BELT (IT WAS TANGLED WITH THE SERPENTINE BELT) AND REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER PULLEY. *JB

I WAS TRAVELLING EASTBOUND ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY APPROACHING EXIT 57 WHEN I STARTED TO HEAR A NOISE FROM UNDERNEATH MY VEHICLE, A 1999 PLMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS THE MUFFLER AND CONTINUED DRIVING. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I NOTICED DEBRIS AND BLACK SMOKE IN THE RIGHT SIDE MIRROR. I WAS NOW BETWEEN EXITS 57 AND 58. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. WHEN I GOT OUT I EXAMINED THE MUFFLER FIRST. IT WAS FINE. I THEN WALKED AROUND TO THE REAR RIGHT SIDE AND SAW THAT THE REAR RIGHT TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED. THE TREAD WAS SEPARATED FRON THE REST OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE RIM WAS NOT BENT PROBABLY DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF WHEN I PULLED OVER PLUS THE FACT THAT THE SEPARATED TREAD WAS WRAPPED AROUND IT. I CALLED AAA AND HAD THE TIRE CHANGED. MY WIFE AND TWO OF MY GRANDDAUGHTERS WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME. WE ARE LUCKY THAT IT WAS NOT A FRONT TIRE. THE TIRE IS A GOODYEAR REGATTA II THAT WAS PURCHASED AS ONE OF A NEW SET OF FOUR ON MARCH 27, 2003. I HAVE PUT JUST UNDER 30,000 MI

THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT. THE DEFECT IS USAULLY MISDIAGNOSED, RESULTING IN COSTLY REPAIR BILLS FOR THE OWNERS AND IS NEVER CORRECTED. PROBLEM-THREE FRONT AXLES. PER ARTICLE-THE VEHICLE WOBBLES WHEN ACCELERATING. THE INNER JOINT ON THE FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE AXLE IS CALLED A PLUNGE JOINT. THERE IS A LOT OF GEOMETRY GOING ON IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION WHICH REQUIRES THE ABILITY OF THE FRONT DRIVE AXLES TO CHANGE LENGTH. WHEN THE INNER PLUNGE JOINT IS FAILING , THERE WILL BE A HIGH SPEED SHAKE THAT DEVELOPS. THIS IS BECAUSE THE AXLE WILL BE SPINNING OFF CENTER. THE TIRES WILL HOLD A STRAIGHT LINE AND PUSH AGAINST THE AXLE, PUSHING BACK ON THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH MOVES THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE.*SCC
