TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, EXCESSIVE FORCE HAD TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. LODI CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (1255 BECKMAN RD, LODI, CA) DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY AND BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE PARTS WERE INCLUDED IN A LIFETIME CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 682; HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO HONOR THE CAMPAIGN BECAUSE THEY NO LONGER MANUFACTURED THE PARTS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 189,000.

THIS VAN IS AFFECTED BY THE 96V099000 NHTSA RECALL, HOWEVER WHEN INQUIRING ABOUT GETTING THE ABS MOTOR REPLACED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS ARE NO LONGER MADE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER HAS A DUTY TO FIX THE BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE AS DIRECTED BY THE NHTSA, PARTS OBSOLESCENCE DOES NOT ABSOLVE THEM FROM RESPONSIBILITY OR THE NHTSA. IF THE PARTS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE I REQUEST THAT CHRYSLER PURCHASE THE VAN BACK FROM ME AND HAVE IT DESTROYED, FIX THE BRAKES ACCORDING TO THE RECALL OR CONVERT THE BRAKES TO THE NON-ABS TYPE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW CHRYSLER AND THE NHTSA COULD ALLOW BENDIX (THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS RATHER PROBLEMATIC BRAKE SYSTEM) TO STOP MAKING A LIFETIME REPLACEMENT PART. THIS ISSUE CAUSES THE POWER ASSIST TO STOP WORKING, CREATES A HARD PEDAL WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY. EXPERIENCED HARD BRAKE PEDAL (LOSE OF BRAKING) AND BRAKE / ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. THIS WAS THE SECOND FAILURE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 14,000 MILES OF OPERATION SINCE THE LAST REPAIR AND FOR AT LEAST THE FOURTH TIME SINCE WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE (BOUGHT NEW). PREVIOUS REPAIR INVOLVED REPLACEMENT OF BRAKE ACCUMULATOR, DUAL PRESSURE SWITCH, BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON ASSEMBLY, AND THE PUMP MOTOR ASSEMBLY, THE LAST TWO OF WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO A LIFETIME RECALL. DEALER REFUSES TO REPAIR/REPLACE WARRANTED PARTS WITHOUT AGREEMENT THAT OTHER PARTS ARE REPLACED AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $900. GIVEN THAT IT IS LIKELY THAT WARRANTED PART FAILURES ARE LEADING TO THE FAILURE OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS AND THAT THE LAST REPAIR ONLY LASTED FOR 14,000 MILE WE REQUESTED THAT CHRYSLER COVER THE ENTIRE REPAIR. CHRYSLER REFUSED. IN ADDITION, IT HAS BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE THAT EACH TIME WE HAVE HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAIL, IT HAS INCLUDED THE NEED TO REPLACE OTHER BRAKE

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AFTER PULLING OVER SHE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL RAIL WAS FRACTURED AND PARTIALLY HANGING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE SLIDING PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD SPORADICALLY COME OFF TRACK AND COULD NOT BE CLOSED PROPERLY. THE DOOR WAS CLOSED USING A CORD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE DOOR APART FOR REALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, STATING THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.

TWO WEEKS AGO THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY 1992 PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER MINI-VAN. AT THAT MOMENT THERE WAS NO HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VAN. THE VAN WAS TOWED TO MY REGULAR, INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CHECKED THE CONDITION AND THEIR DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER ISSUED A CODED ERROR. I DISCOVERED THAT THIS ABS BRAKE WAS COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BY CHRYSLER. I TOOK THE VAN TO A NEARBY CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY CHECKED. THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WERE OUT AT THIS TIME AND THE DEALER CHARGED FOR ONE HOUR, GAVE ME LIST OF PARTS THEY CONSIDERED MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED AND VERBALLY SAID IT MAY COST ABOUT $400 OR MORE TO FIX. THEY DID NOT ASSURE ME THAT A WARRANTY WOULD APPLY. *TR

THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE SINCE THE CONSUMER OWNED THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN SERVICED EVERY YEAR. CONSUMER HAS TO PRESS ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES REMAIN DEFECTIVE.*AK

TREAD SEPARATION IN TIRE. THE TIRE WAS A P205/17R15 WITH DOT U9M0 LBX2701 F01L. THE TIRE NAME WAS RESPONSE RST TOURING 2000. THE TIRE HAD 16000 MILES AND WAS ON THE VEHICLE 16 MAR 2002 TO 19 SEP 2004. THE TIRE WAS SOLD AND INSTALLED BY NTB, NATIONAL TIRE & BATTERY, STAFFORD, TX. OWNER DEDUCED THE SEPARATION AFTER THE DEFECTIVE TIRE WAS ROTATED TO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND LATER NOTICED THE BUMP FROM THE TREAD SEPARATION. NTB STATED THAT THE REMAINING 3 TIRES WOULD ALSO FAIL BY TREAD SEPARATION. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED. NONE OF THE TIRES WAS REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE.
