Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 54 investigation files overlapping the 1984 STANZA, and 5 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. MY 300 Z NISSAN WAS RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM AND REPAIRED BY NISSAN. NISSAN SAYS THEY HAVE RECORD OF OTHER FAILURES BUT NOT ENOUGH TO RECALL. THIS CAN BE VERY SERIOUS LEADING TO FIRE. UNFORTUNATELY FOR NISSAN, THEY MAKE RELIABLE CARS THAT LAST ALONG TIME, AND NO ONE REALIZED THE PROBLEMS ETHANOL COULD CAUSE WHEN IT WAS USED IN GAS. THANKS FOR YOU ASSISTANCE. *AK
