Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improper

The contact stated that after parking the vehicle in the driveway and turning off the vehicle, while exiting the vehicle, the rear hatchback glass suddenly shattered. The contact stated that prior to the failure, the rear defroster was not activated, and there was no impact to the hatchback glass to cause the glass to shatter. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact stated that previously after parking and turning off the vehicle, the vehicle restarted independently and continued running for approximately six hours before the contact discovered that the vehicle was still running. On Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 6:41AM, I was going to Starbucks located at 5378 W. Rosecrans Ave Hawthorne, CA 90250. My partner and I were talking, I was just about to exit to get my coffee then we heard a loud “pop” like a gun shot, and then the sound of shattering glass. We jumped, frighted, startled by the sound, immediately looking over at the back seat of my car window. We both exited the car, a man who was outside of the front of my car (just walking by coming out of Starbucks) heard the same sound, he exclaimed “what was that a gun shot?”, we both thought it was an active shooter! I ducked and took cover. I was scared for my life. I noticed a women exiting her car across from mine, assumed it was safe. I asked her if she saw anything. Additionally, after shifted to drive from reverse the back over prevention camera screen failed to immediately turn off. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. I was driving to work around 3:15 am on 1/20/26 when my back windshield exploded! There was no warning. I did have my defrost on. I thought someone had shot or thrown something at my car. I called the service department at my dealership and even spoke the Service Manager. He recommended that I speak with consumer affairs, which I did. I was told to file and insurance claim. Not only that, my window cannot be replaced with an identical window. Mine was tinted from the factory and they do not sell that window. I'll have to pay even more to have my window tinted to match the rest of the car. I did Google this subject and I see that many Nissan vehicle owners have had the same thing happen to their cars. Also I see where a class action lawsuit has been opened. I want Nissan to take responsibility. I was driving on a bridge in the dark - the noise it made was LOUD.

Back glass shattered while sitting under the carport. It was around 30 degrees outside when it happened. No rock or bullet hole.

My Nissan Kicks SV was sitting in my carport, with no temperature extremes and no weather when the back windshield exploded. I called the College Station Texas Nissan dealership and they said that my warranty did not cover the exploded windshield. My car is less than 2 years old and only has 13, 015 miles on it. The dealership told me it would cost me over 400.00 dollars to have the windshield replaced. I have explored the internet and found out that this is a recurring thing that happens to Nissan vehicles. Mine is not the first. I have a 4 month old baby that rides in the backseat of this vehicle. If the windshield had exploded while she was in the car, she could have been seriously injured or killed. This is a nightmare of a safety issue.

Rear windshield shattered while car was parked indoors. The car had been in the garage for several hours and the temperature was mild so underwent no extreme temperature/pressure fluctuation, rear hatch had been open for about 20 minutes as I was vacuuming the carpets. I was working in the front seat nowhere near the rear window - nothing came in contact with the window, there were no preexisting cracks or chips. The glass seemed to have shattered outward from the edges, as glass from both sides of the window was projected outward into the garage.
