The 1992NISSAN300ZX carries 6 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 1 crash, 0 fires, 1 injury, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1992 300ZX is tires with 1 filings, followed by suspension:front (1) and air bags:frontal (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 54 investigation files overlapping the 1992 300ZX, and 5 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH (AFTER THE FACT) AND LEARNED MANY PAOPLE HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL/YEAR. THE MOST TRAGIC CASE IS THE FUEL LINES NEEDING REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE A BALL OF FLAMES DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE! THAT IS VERY DISTRUBING. THIS VEHICLE IS TOO YOUNG TO HAVE SUCH MAJOR COMPONENT FAILURES!! VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE (WHICH WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM IF THE CAR WAS "OVER THE HILL") BUT THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 95K ON IT. PLEASE ADVISE AS TO THE FUEL LINE ISSUE.*AK
