Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2001 200SX is electrical system:ignition:module with 1 filings, followed by visibility:rearview mirrors/devices:exterior (1) and seats (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.

NHTSA currently has 54 investigation files overlapping the 2001 200SX, and 5 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

I COMPLAINED SIX MONTHS AGO ABOUT A THUMPING NOISE AND WOPPLE IN MY FRONT END. I WAS ADVISED TO WAIT FOR THE 30,000 MILE CHECK TO GET ALLIGNMENT ADJUSTED. AFTER THE SERVICE A MONTH AGO, I STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK TWICE AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. THE SECOND TIME I SAID I WAS NOT PICKING UP THE CAR UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. THAT'S WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING AND THE IDLER PULLEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS COVERED BY WARANTY. BUT I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT END - A SLIGHT WOBBLE AROUND 65 TO 70 MPH.

THIS CAR WAS RULED A LEMON. MBUSA ADMITTED THERE IS A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX THAT PREVENTS THE PASSENGER MIRROR FROM RETURNING TO IT'S MEMORIZED POSTITION AFTER IT TILTS DOWN WHEN THE CAR IS IN REVERSE. THE REMOTE KEY (I HAD IT REPLACED TWICE) RANDOMLY FAILS TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE. IT ONCE RANDOMLY LOCKED ME IN. THE PASSENGER DOORS ALSO UNLOCK WHEN THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO. THE SEAT ALSO FAILED TO RETAIN MEMORY AND I COULD NOT REACH THE PEDALS UNLESS I CORRECTED IT. IT CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION AFTER THE CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED. THIS CAR HAD MANY RANDOM ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL.*AK
