Within that volume, owners reported 2 crashes, 0 fires, 3 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1988 XJ6 is vehicle speed control with 2 filings, followed by structure:body:door (1) and steering:hydraulic power assist system (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 1988 XJ6. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I HAVE A JAGUAR XJ6 1988 FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS I NEVER USE IT UNTIL DECEMBER 2007. I BECAME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AROUND DEC. 15 2007. THE POLICE SAY THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I WAS MOVING TO FLORDIA DURING THAT TIME I DID NOT FIGHT THE CASE BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE NOW AM USING IT MORE OFTEN. BUT I ALWAYS NOTICE THAT THIS CAR HAVE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I THOUGH THAT IT WAS THE BREAK PAD BUT IS NO IN GOOD CONDITION. LOOKING OVER THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS CAR HAS A RECALL FOR A LONG TIME WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT. WHY I WAS NEVER AWARE OF THIS. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
