The 2013JAGUARXJ carries 10 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2013 XJ is engine with 2 filings, followed by power train (2) and service brakes (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 3 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 2 investigation files overlapping the 2013 XJ. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

The headlights turn themselves off while I’m driving at night. It’s very scary for a minute or two but I manage to get them back on by manipulating the switch. I mentioned this to the service rep at the Jaguar dealership and his response was “ that’s typical of that car”. It’s been doing this since a purchased the car but is getting worse and dangerous.

IN WEATHER BELOW 30 DEGREES F, PARKED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME ON THE STREET, AND USUALLY IN FROST CONDITIONS, DOORS WILL NOT OPEN ON CAR. ONCE YOU GET DOOR TO OPEN, USUALLY BY LOWERING WINDOW AND UNLOCKING FROM INSIDE, DOORS WILL NOT LATCH CLOSED. ONCE CAR WARMS UP, DOORS LATCH CLOSED. DOORS NEED TO BE HELD BY HAND OR BY BUNGEE CORD TO KEEP CLOSED UNTIL CAR WARMS UP AND DOOR LATCHES CLOSED. AT TIMES, YOU ARE ABLE TO ENTER THE CAR, BUT ONCE INSIDE THE DRIVERS SEAT, YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. DURING THIS INCIDENT, THE DRIVERS WINDOW WAS LOWERED AND DOOR OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS USUALLY OCCURS TO ALL DOORS, AND IF FORTUNATE, ONE DOOR WILL OPEN. AS A FURTHER NOTE, DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM IS ELECTRONIC. JAGUAR SERVICE TECHNICIANS COULD NOT FIND ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 JAGUAR XJ. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE LOW COOLANT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH THE GAUGE APPEARED NORMAL. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT STALLED AND SHUT OFF. I PURCHASED A 2013 JAGUAR XJ NEW ON OCTOBER 22, 2013 THAT WAS EQUIPPED WITH 4 PIRELLI PZERO NERO TIRES. ON FEBRUARY 22, 2016 I HAD TO REPLACE THE TWO FRONT TIRES 245/45R/19 DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR. THE REAR TIRES WERE DEEMED IN GOOD CONDITION. BUT, A MONTH LATER, ON MARCH 27, 2016 I WAS DRIVING ON A CLEAR FREEWAY WHEN MY PIRELLI PZERO NERO A/S REAR TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT WHERE THE ENTIRE TIRE SEPARATED AT A SEAM SO THAT ONE PART REMAINED ON THE RIM AND THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE TIRE MOVED OFF THE RIM. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON OPEN FREEWAY WITH NO DEBRIS OR OBJECTS ON ROAD. THE EXPLODING TIRE CAUSED THE CAR TO VEER 40 TO THE LEFT, THEN BACK SUDDENLY TO THE RIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL CAR TO IMMEDIATE STOP BUT CAN SEE NO PUNCTURE ON TIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE AND TORE APART EVEN THOUGH TREND WAS STILL DEEP.

WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR STARTED ROLLING FORWARD. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD TO STOP IT. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 3 MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT 2 MONTHS. ONE TIME THE ENGINE RACED VERY HIGH AND I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO AVOID CRASHING. AT 5000 MILES I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD FIND NO DIAGNOSES FROM THE AUTO COMPUTER AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE HOW TO FIX, BUT NOW I SEE A NUMBER OF REPORTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT JAGUAR RAPID AND UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. I FEEL JAGUAR IS NOT BEING HONEST ABOUT THIS PROBLEM -- AND IT IS DANGEROUS CONDITION. *TR
