The 2005CHRYSLER300 carries 1061 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 47 crashes, 22 fires, 40 injuries, and 5 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2005 300 is air bags with 240 filings, followed by power train (122) and electrical system (78). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 7 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.
NHTSA currently has 88 investigation files overlapping the 2005 300, and 7 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

This is a serious safety concern regarding the shift interlock system on my 2005 Chrysler 300. When the vehicle is in Park, particularly in traffic, and the light turns green, I am forced to lift the coin attachment and manually press the pink interlock just to change gears or accelerate. This creates a dangerous situation where I am unable to move the vehicle promptly, potentially leaving me vulnerable to a rear-end collision. The issue stems from Recall 05V462000, which specifically addresses a shift interlock defect that Chrysler has failed to address despite my repeated attempts to have it repaired. Chrysler has not taken any action to resolve the recall issue, leaving me in a potentially life-threatening situation every time I drive. It is unacceptable that this recall has not been acted upon, and this critical safety defect must be corrected immediately.

The vehicle began to shutter in reverse. This went on for about a week. Transmission fluid level was checked and it was in the normal range. My husband and I were driving it and made a sharp turn to find us in a spot to continue forward and go off a cliff or back up and get out of traffics way. He backed up and we heard a clunk. The car continues to drive forward with no issues but it acts as of itâs in neutral when you put it in reverse. No codes are showing either.

Strong fuel smell in cabin and outside of car when gas tank is full. Discovered gas in the cabin sitting on top of the fuel tank under the passenger-rear seat. Multiple posts in online forums confirm this is a known issue. Vehicle owner ordered a new o-ring to attempt repair. Area around fuel pump under driver's-rear seat was not affected. No warning lights, notices or performance issues. Only indication is strong gas fumes in car after filling up the gas tank (auto shutoff at pump, not topped off) which persists for several days. Problem seems minimized if gas tank is shorted 2-3 gallons from max capacity on fillup (about 14 gallons when car is close to empty per the gas gauge in dashboard.) Car was not inspected by dealer, insurance agent, police, independent service center, or anyone else other than owner.

The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was towed away and examined by the manufacturer's engineer. The cause of the failure was not explained but the contact was informed that the manufacturer took no responsibility for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 190,000

Our 2005 Chrysler 300 stalls and will not restart for many minutes after we refuel it. Chrysler stated they have extended the warranty to a life time coverage if you are experiencing this issue you are able to get it covered under said warranty. We have contacted them and they state this one is not covered. How can we go about getting this covered. It obviously has the issue they have recalled and should be covered!! Thank you, Shannon Hainzlsperger
My 2005 Chrysler 300 has been having an issue with the fuel tank. When you get fuel in it then it wonât stay started. It keeps stalling out repeatedly. It also stalls out randomly under 25mph. Both are dangerous as it may cause you to get T-boned leaving gas station as it repeatedly stalls. Also it stalled out on the freeway on-ramp under 25mph. This is also dangerous as you lose your steering at the same time. Someone could have been injured or killed. And Chrysler needs to take this more seriously than they did just with the 2005 300c. Itâs happening to more models of that year as well. Their offered remedy was telling me not to fuel it all the way up anymore past 3/4 of a tank. A dealership confirmed it needs a full fuel tank replacement and has had it since Memorial Day. They still have it currently. Chrysler told me and the dealership Iâm on my own after treating me horribly most of the time on the phone calls with customer care center as I was jumping through hoops for them
COULD NOT GET GEAR SHIFT OUT OF PARK. WE TOOK APART CASING, FOUND THE PINK PLASTIC BROKE. LOOKED AT YOUTUBE TO FIX. ORDER PART ON AMAZON. THE PLASTIC PIECE IS NOW MADE OF METAL!!
IN THE BEGINING MY CAR STALL AFTER FILLING THE TANK UP WITH GAS. IT WOULD STALL AT LOW IDLE LIKE FOR INSTANCE WHEN I COME TO A STOP. BUT IT ALSO HAVE DONE IT WHEN I'VE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS TO ME AND EVERYONE AROUND ME. ESPECIALLY ON A MAJOR CITY HIGHWAY LIKE ATLANTA. I;VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVE SINCE EARLY LAST YEAR.
