Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2022 TRAVERSE is power train with 30 filings, followed by unknown or other (23) and electrical system (15). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 57 investigation files overlapping the 2022 TRAVERSE, and 2 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Traverse and 2021-2022 Buick Enclave vehicles. The harness connector to the left or right side roof rail air bag may have incompatible electrical terminals, which could prevent the air bags from deploying in a crash.

The vehicle started throwing an error stating 'shift to park' after putting the vehicle in park. When attempting to turn the vehicle off it will not allow it, just keeping up the shift to park message on the dash. I am then unable to lock the doors. This could kill my battery as the engine eventually turns off but the lights stay on. Furthermore, leaving the vehicle unlocked and on for some time puts it at risk of being stolen. It does not happen every time I turn the vehicle off. I have tried shifting it back and forth between drive and park and sometimes that corrects the issue. I just got this vehicle about a week ago and it has not yet been diagnosed or seen as this problem just began last night. There were no other issues experienced yet. Googling it, seems to be a common issue with many Traverse owners, stating that it is typically the transmission shift control module. I do plan on following up with the dealership asap.

When returning home I had trouble turning off the vehicle. I was getting error to shift to park when it was already in park. Had to cycle multiple times before it registered it was in park. Less than 60k miles but does not appear as a recall and does not appear to be under warranty.

I just purchased the vehicle there was an open recall that was never taken care of. I took it to the dealership and the front exhaust pipe is cracked and leaking which was the original recall

20260106ENGINE

Both the front AND REAR exhaust pipes are cracked and broken with holes in them where the SINGLE bracket that secures both pipes mounts. There was special coverage issued to repair, but the special coverage only identifies the front pipe. The rear pipe is essentially dangling from the upstream catalytic converter, which also appears to be cracked due to the same underlying issue. If the vehicle doors are open, exhaust fumes will enter, rather than be expelled to the rear of vehicle. This pipe can essentially finish cracking and fall off into the roadway. The check engine light did not come on until these components broke. The problem is vast across many of these vehicles as reported to me by an owner of an independent service center as well as technicians who work at certified GM dealerships. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I currently still drive it, but its just a matter of time before a heaping hunk of metal pipe falls onto the roadway and causes an accident. T

On Friday, 12/19/2025, I started by car and noticed that the infotainment display was taking longer than usual to boot up. It cycled through the Chevrolet splash screen 2 times until it ended on the "Update Failed. Returned to dealer." Due to this message on the infotainment display, there is no sound coming out of the speakers which results: *unable to hear turn signals when they are activated, *the front camera is no longer working, *unable to hear the parking assist when in reverse, *OnStar is no longer working, and *unable to hear front collision warnings. The display just cycles this message. I called around to several dealerships to see if I could get in that day to get this corrected. I was able to take it to a Chevrolet dealership on Tuesday, 12/23/2025, who diagnosed the problem as software corruption due to the over-the-air update and will result in a new radio needing to be installed. I then called Chevrolet Customer Service Center who stated that since my vehicle is

When I shift my car into park and turn off the engine, an error message appears-"Shift to Park." Although the dashboard displays that the vehicle is in park, the radio and lights remain active & I am unable to turn off my car. To resolve this issue, I must restart the car and cycle through park, reverse, or neutral before attempting to shift back into park again. It often takes multiple attempts to eliminate the error message. My Traverse is currently at the dealership, where I have been informed that it needs a new shifter, which is not covered under warranty. These vehicle is garage kept, one owner & has less than 32k miles on it- I have also discovered that this issue is recognized by GM, with numerous complaints documented on this site alone. Given that this is a widespread problem affecting many owners, it seems unreasonable for us to shoulder the expense of this repair.

Front Manifold has cracked twice, bracket to exhaust system has broken twice. A few times when we put it in park the traverse will say it's not in park and we have to wiggle the gear shift.

When shifting my vehicle into Park, the message “Shift to Park” appears even though the gear lever is already in the Park position. The vehicle does not always recognize that it is in Park, which prevents it from fully shutting off and poses a potential rollaway or battery drain risk. Often the radio/bluetooth components remain on. This issue creates a safety concern when parking, especially on inclines or in public areas and I live on a dangerous steep driveway. The problem was confirmed by Montgomery Chevrolet on October 28, 2024, after I paid $175 for a diagnostic that is not covered under warranty. They verified the “Shift to Park” malfunction and provided a repair estimate of $1,796.55. The vehicle and component are available for inspection upon request with videos and photos of the "shift to park" error log. This began appearing shortly before the dealer visit and has continued since. Video available upon request* Unable to upload

Vehicle will frequently state "Shift To Park" on dashboard when shifter is set to Park. Restarting engine and resetting to Park does not help. Horn and interior bells sound upon exiting the vehicle due to Shift To Park error. Safety issue concern, because I'm use to seeing the error message and ignore it, and what would happen if the shifter was not actually in Park. I took to GMC dealership. The issue as noted by mechanic at dealership is "position switch internally shorting out intermittently in shifter control assembly. Replaced shifter control assembly." I was charged $543.44 for parts and labor. My understanding is that certain Traverse years are known for this problem. I would like a refund from the manufacturer knowing this is a known manufacturer problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that after reversing out of the driveway and shifting into drive(D), the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle made an abnormal sound, as if the transmission and engine had detached and fell onto the road. The contact had only driven forward approximately 30-feet when the rear wheels locked up. The contact shifted to park(P) and waited for a while. When the vehicle was shifted into drive(D), the contact was unable to accelerate above 10 MPH. The vehicle was driven in LIMP Mode to the local dealer. The contact stated that the check engine warning illuminated close by the dealer. The contact stated that the dealer was located approximately 1.9 miles away from the residence. The contact stated that the dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and assigned a case advisor to the contact.

The front passenger door does not open from the interior causing passenger to be trapped within. The only way to open passenger door is from the exterior. I took Traverse to GM dealership on September 30, 2025. GM dealership removed door panel, and stated the front door lock cable was not attached to door handle assembly. Traverse was repaired on October 1, 2025. The charge was $199.99 plus tax. I purchased this car used in July 2024.
