The 2000CADILLACSLS carries 11 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2000 SLS is engine and engine cooling:engine with 2 filings, followed by vehicle speed control (1) and tires (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 1 active recall campaign, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 10 investigation files overlapping the 2000 SLS, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

GOOD MORNING;I HAD PURCHASED A 2000 CADILLAC SEVILLE(SLS)USED AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AS I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL (DIGITAL)STARTED FLASHING ENGINE IS HOT,VEHICLE ENGINE MUST BE SHUT DOWN. THE CAR STARTED LOOSING POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO STEER OFF TO THE SIDE OF ROAD. I'M NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE OVERHEATED AND CAUGHT FIRE OR NOT? I RETURNED THIS VEHICLE TO USED CAR DEALER FOR REFUND. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A GARAGE AND I DISCOVERED THE RADIATOR CAP WAS LEAKING. IT WAS REPLACED. TO ME IT LOOKED LIKE IT WAS WARPED? ALSO I WAS TOLD THE FUEL SENDING SENSOR WAS DEFECTED AD GAS TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED,SO I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO DEALER. HE ACCEPTED TO TAKE CAR BACK.HE TOOK ME TO SEE A 1999 CADILLAC SEVILLE(SLS) AND WE DISCOVERED THIS CAR HAD THE PROBLEM OF RUNNING HOT. I THINK MAYBE THERE IS A NEED TO RECALL THIS MODEL OF CADILLAC FOR THESE PROBLEMS AND THIS WOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE.ANY QUESTIONS, CONTACT ME. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE CAR THAT I PURC

NO EXTRAORDINARY EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS PROBLEM. MASSIVE SUDDEN ELECTRONIC FAILURES OF ACCESSORIES SYSTEMS. CONSEQUENCES ARE POSSIBILITY OF CAR ELECTRONIC SYSTEM BREAKING DOWN IN TRAFFIC. ALL FUSES, RELAYS AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS ARE GOOD. ENGINE SEALS LEAKED EVERYWHERE, DEALER HAD TO REBUILD ENGINE 1 YR AGO, NOW ENGINE BLOCK WAS REPORTEDLY "WEEPING" SO THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONLY 60000 MILES, CADILLAC DID COVER MOST OF THE COSTS. *JB

SINCE I PURCHASED THE CADILLAC 2000 SEVILLE IN MAR. 2002, I HAVE HAD MANY INCIDENCES IN WHICH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE DIM. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER AT KENT RYLEE IN ROGERS, AR, ON 1-29-04, AND TO SUPERIOR CADILLAC IN FAYETTEVILLE, AR ON 11-3-04 WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS EACH TIME. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG, AS THEY SAID BECAUSE IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DETECT THE PROBLEM WITH INTERMITTENT FAILURES OF LIGHTS. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD IN NIGHTTIME AND BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS, AS I CANNOT SEE WHAT I AM DOING IN THE CAR OR OUTSIDE OF IT! IN ADDITION, THE COVERS FOR THE WINDOWS AND MIRRORS ADJUSTMENT BUTTONS ARE LOOSE, AND I WAS TOLD BY SUPERIOR CADILLAC THAT THE WHOLE DOOR PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. THIS IS ANOTHER SAFETY HAZARD ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TRY TO GET THE MIRRORS ADJUSTED AT NIGHT! *NM

CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WOULD STALL INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLE HAD BEEN CHECKED BY A DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE. PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. TS. ALSO DUE TO THE ENGINE STALLING THE POWER STEERING, BRAKES, AND ALL LIGHTS HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE. SCC *JB

WHILE DRIVING 50-60MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE, THE PROBLEM WAS THOUGHT TO BE RECTIFIED, HOWEVER MONTHS LATER THE VIBRATION REOCCURRED, VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN SEVERAL TIMES FOR INSPECTION AND BALANCING. CONSUMER WAS TOLD IT WAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. *JG *JB

AFTER MY 35,000 MILE SERVICE THE ENGINE BEGAN USING OIL. I HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES AT THE LOCAL DEALER. THIS LAST TIME I USED 4 QUATS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE DEALER TELLS ME THIS IN NORMAL FOR THE NORTHSTAR ENGINE. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE. PLEASE ADVISE.*AK

THROTTLE STUCK OPEN FULL WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. MANAGED TO AVOID HITTING THREE OTHER VEHICLES, BUT ALL THAT CAME TO MIND WAS SHUTTING ENGINE OFF. COASTED TO A STOP AND HAD TO MANUALLY CLOSE THROTTLE BODY UNDER HOOD. DEALER SAID NORTHSTAR ENGINES WERE NOTORIOUS FOR DOING THIS.FIRST CHECK OF THROTTLE BODY WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE AT 30,000 MILES ON MAINTENANCE.
