WHILE GOING 45 APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I CASUALLY HIT THE BRAKES. THE CAR DID NOT STOP. HITTING THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR FOR A 2ND TIME, THE CAR DID NOT STOP. THUS, AFTER RUNNING THE RED LIGHT IN A NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE AND DRIVING WITHOUT BRAKES UNTIL I COULD FIND A PARKING LOT TO PULL OVER IN, GOT THE PROBLEM CHECKED OUT AND WAS TOLD THE BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION GOING APPROXIMATELY 45, CAR DID NOT STOP DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINE (SNAPPED BRAKE LINE)

NOTE THAT IT WAS "REPAIRED" IN BETWEEN THE INCIDENTS, DO IT WAS NOT THE SAME INITIAL PROBLEM. I FILED A COMPLAINT BACK THEN, BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. THE MECHANICS AT THE PALO ALTO CADILLAC DEALER SEEMED TO KNOW OF THE PROBLEM. AT THE TIME, THEY SAID IT WAS A FAILURE OF SOME SENSORS ON THE FLYWHEEL. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS RELATED TO THE CURRENT IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM. HAVING A VEHICLE STALL AT 65 MILE PER HOUR IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. YOU LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. IT WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY ENDED UP IN AN ACCIDENT IF I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW CARS WORK. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE CAR. MY POINT IS, THERE WAS A DEFECT ON THIS CAR THAT APPEARED TO BE KNOWN BY GM, AND WAS ALSO IGNORED. THE COMPLAINT WAS IGNORED BY THE NHTSA. I THINK YOU SHOULD ALSO INQUIRE WITH GM WHAT WAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT.

GM HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN 03-08-66-009, DATED JULY 30, 2003 FOR MODELS 1998-2003 CADILLAC SEVILLE TO REPLACE THE TRUNK SEAL WITH PART # 25762219 WEATHERST 12.269 K. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED PER THE BULLETIN, BUT ON 02/11/2011 CAR WAS TAKEN IN AGAIN FOR WATER IN TRUNK, WITH 35330 MILES. IF THE IMPROVED PART FROM SB 03-08-66-009 WAS USED AND INSTALLED BY THE SELLING DEALERSHIP, HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE LEAK REOCCURRING WITHIN A SIMILAR TIME FRAME AS THE ORIGINAL FAILURE? I REALIZE MOST PEOPLE DO NOT KEEP THEIR VEHICLES MORE THAN 10 YEARS, BUT CURRENT OWNERS OF USED MODELS WOULD ALSO BE IMPACTED AND UNKNOWINGLY PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. IT DOES NOT APPEAR THAT GM ACTUALLY CORRECTED A KNOWN DEFECT THEY HAD IN THIS MODEL CADILLAC WITH THEIR IMPROVED PART.

ON 12-16-06, THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE TO NOTICE THAT THE TIE ROD AND THE RACK AND PINION STEERING HAD BROKEN. THE CONTACT CURRENTLY HAS HIS VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE TELLING HIM THAT THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR HIS TIE ROD ASSEMBLY. THE CONTACT STATES THAT HE WENT ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 99V301000).
