The 1992CADILLACBROUGHAM carries 7 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 3 crashes, 0 fires, 1 injury, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1992 BROUGHAM is vehicle speed control with 3 filings, followed by seat belts:front:webbing (1) and vehicle speed control:cruise control (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 10 investigation files overlapping the 1992 BROUGHAM, and 1 remain open. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I PURCHASED A NEW 1992 4 DOOR CADILLAC BROUGHAM. AT PRESENT THE CAR HAS 45,000 MILES. ALL 4 DRS AUTOMATICALLY LOCK WHEN THE GEAR SHIFT IS ENGAGED. PROBLEM: STARTING AROUND MID-DECEMBER, 2005 AND THROUGH MARCH 30, 2006, ALL 4 DRS AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCKED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 4-5 TIMES IN THIS TIME PERIOD. OTHER THAN THE DOORS UNLOCKING, THERE WERE NO OTHER OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS. ON MARCH 31, 2006, ALL 4 DRS UNLOCKED AGAIN. THIS TIME, ABOUT ONE (1) MINUTE AFTER THE DOORS UNLOCKED, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN LEAVING ME WITH NO POWER BRAKES OR STEERING. TRYING TO MANEUVER A POWERLESS CAR WITH NO FOOT BRAKES AND DIFFICULTY WITH STEERING AMONGST OTHER VEHICULAR TRAFFIC TO A STOP ALONG THE SIDE OF A ONE LANE ROAD IS A SCARY SITUATION! AFTER DOING SO, I NOTICED A LIT DASH LIGHT INDICATING "NO CHARGE." WHEN THE CAR WAS AT A FULL STOP, I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. NOT KNOWING WHAT ELSE TO DO AT THAT TIME, I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR. THE
