I WAS RIDING AT ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE TIRE POPPED. THE CENTER OF THE TREAD SEPARATED CAUSING THE RAPID DEFLATION. I HAD THE BIKE TOWED ON A FLAT BED TO EUROPEAN MOTORSPORTS INC. AND BOUGHT A NEW PIRELLI ROSSO 2 TIRE FOR $168.33. THE FLAT BED TOW COST ME $110. THE TIRE WAS A CONTI SPORT ATTACK SIZE 120/70ZR17 MOTORCYCLE TIRE. I FOUND OUT ON APRIL 21, 2016 THAT CONTINENTAL HAS A RECALL ON THIS TIRE FOR RAPID DEFLATION BECAUSE OF TREAD SEPARATION - THE RECALL NOTICE FROM CONTI IS PSIB 14-06 DATED NOVEMBER 6, 2014. THE BIKE STALLS WHEN YOU SLOW DOWN AND GO TO SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR. IT HAS DONE IT NUMEROUS TIMES AND IS VERY DANGEROUS ON A MOTORCYCLE. THIS BIKE WAS RE-SOLD BY BMW AFTER THEY SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. BMW'S FIX DIDN'T WORK, THE BIKE IS STILL STALLING. THE BIKE HAS NOW BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR OVER A MONTH AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THEY JUST KEEP REPLACING RANDOM PARTS TO TRY AND CORRECT IT. THIS IS A SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT BMW NEEDS TO ADDRESS CORRECTLY OR SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED. MY GUESS IS THE MAPPING UNIT FOR THE BIKE ISN'T MAPPED CORRECTLY AND THEY NEED TO DESIGN ONE THAT IS OR CAN BE ADJUSTED PROPERLY. *TR

THE DEALER SAID HE NEVER SAW A TIRE SEPARATION IN ALL HIS EXPERIENCE ON A MOTORCYCLE TIRE. THE TIRE HAD 10,000 MILES ON IT ABOUT 1 YEAR OLD WITH SUBSTANTIAL TREAD LEFT. BMW OF MANHATTAN HAS ASSURED ME MULTIPLE TIMES THAT THE STALLING WOULD BE CORRECTED WITH SOME SOFTWARE, BUT THAT HAS NOT BEEN THE CASE. THERE HAD BEEN A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE FRONT BRAKES WHICH HAD BEEN SERVICED/THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL FIX UNTIL THIS EVENT. I NEARLY GOT RAN OVER BY A LOGGING TRUCK IN ARKANSAS WHEN THE BIKE STALLED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC AND BMW OF FT. WORTH REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL AND SPECIFICALLY MY MOTORCYCLE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED IF THE NHTSA DOESN'T STEP IN AND FORCE A RECALL OF 2009-2010 BMW K1300S AND K1300GT MODELS. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE BIKE FROM WITH JUST 200 MILES ON THIS NEW BMW K1300S. DEALERSHIP HAS MADE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM, ECU RESETS, SOFTWARE UPDATES ETC. BUT NOTHING HAS HELPED. THE BMW DEALER TELLS ME THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AND THE BMW OR NORTH AMERICA HAS THOUSANDS OF OPEN CASES WITH BMW NEW K BIKES (K1300S, K1300GT). I PURCHASED MY BIKE IN APRIL 2009 AND AM PATIENTLY WAITING FOR BMW TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.
