The 2008BMW750LI carries 102 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 7 crashes, 3 fires, 10 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.

Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2008 750LI is power train with 18 filings, followed by electrical system (13) and structure:body (11). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability. This model year has 2 active recall campaigns, which means the manufacturer is obligated to remedy the covered defect at no charge for the life of the vehicle — the full NHTSA campaign numbers are listed below.

NHTSA currently has 34 investigation files overlapping the 2008 750LI. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. Use the related-complaint feed below to read raw owner narratives before deciding whether any pattern here affects your specific use case.

20211215FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

The contact owns a 2008 BMW 750LI. The contact stated that upon refueling the vehicle, he smelled a strong gas odor. The contact recalled that the same issue had occurred with a BMW vehicle that he previously owned, so he drove the vehicle to his residence and restarted it. The contact exited the vehicle and as he was looking around, he noticed fuel leaking onto the rear driver’s side wheel and onto the floor. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that his vehicle was not included in a recall. The dealer advised the contact to take the vehicle in for diagnosis; however, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump was fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

I WAS DRIVING AND OUT OF NOWHERE, MY CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN, AND I RECEIVED AN WARNING LIGHT ON MY DASH TELLING ME I WAS HAVING A "TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND DRIVE MODERATELY". I ONLY HAVE 88,900 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE ON 750 SERIES MODELS FROM 2005-2008. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS, AS IT'S COSTLY AND VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH.
