Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2024 340I is back over prevention: rearview system braking with 1 filings, followed by visibility/wiper (1) and structure:body (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 34 investigation files overlapping the 2024 340I. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. I was driving on an empty highway at about 55 mph and all of a sudden heard a loud bang, after i pulled over i saw that my sunroof was shattered, bmw declined a warranty on it but the car had only 3k miles on it, prior to that accident i was hearing some squeaking noises from my sunroof when it was in fully closed position. After taking it to the dealership not only they declined on the warranty but they failed to investigate and explain the cause stating it was probably the rock hit the glass the caused the problem, i taped the sunroof after it shattered and after i was picking up the car the tape was still there and was at the same condition prior leaving the car there, so that tells me that they didn't even chacket it.

The rear cross traffic alert system is a major safety issue on my 2024 BMW M340i. It basically does not operate. To get any kind of notification that there is a vehicle approaching from either right or left if you are backing up the approaching vehicle has to be traveling at a speed greater than 7 mph and then you only get an alert within 2 seconds of impact. This is a pointless operation as then it is too late to avoid a collision. The window is to narrow to provide any useful alert and safety function. Also, I receive no alert if a pedestrian should be walking behind the vehicle nor a small child. I had this issue checked at my dealership and was told the system is operating as intended. So I then escalated it to BMW of America customer service. After some back and forth with BMW of America CS as they had initially defaulted to the dealers stated finding (operating as intended) they agreed agreed to send a factory Engineer to the dealership to look at the issue after I said I would r
