The 1993BMW325 carries 13 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 2 crashes, 1 fire, 3 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 1993 325 is air bags:frontal with 2 filings, followed by electrical system (1) and visibility:windshield (1). Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 34 investigation files overlapping the 1993 325. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. 325IS - TWO REAR SUBFRAME MOUNTS HAVE COMPLETELY BROKEN. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ABUSE/ACCIDENT. REPAIR ESTIMATES HAVE BEEN WRITTEN IN THE $2500-$4000 RANGE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE MATTER I'VE FOUND THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE PROBLEM. I EVEN SPOKE TO A BMW BODY SHOP EMPLOYEE WHO BELIEVES IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I ALSO FOUND ANOTHER 93 325IS OWNER IN SAN FRANCISCO WHO WAS ABLE TO GET BMW OF NORTH AMERICA TO REPAIR HIS CAR (OUT OF WARRANTY) AT NO COST. I'M CURRENTLY WORKING WITH BMWNA AND MY LOCAL DEALER TO ACHIEVE THE SAME THING.
