The 2005BMW1 SERIES carries 3 consumer safety complaints in NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation database for this specific model-year cohort. Within that volume, owners reported 0 crashes, 0 fires, 0 injuries, and 0 fatalities. No NCAP 5-star crash-test rating is available for this model year in the federal database.
Component-level analysis is where model-year complaints become actionable: the top complaint category for the 2005 1 SERIES is air bags with 3 filings. Concentration in one or two component groups is the classic signature of a systemic defect; a flat distribution usually reflects normal aging, warranty complaints, or isolated build-plant variability.
NHTSA currently has 34 investigation files overlapping the 2005 1 SERIES. Owners comparing this cohort against neighboring years should pair the counters above with the complaint-by-year trend on the parent model page — a spike in a single year often tracks to a platform refresh, a new transmission supplier, or an updated ECU calibration. 15B-318 DRIVERS AIR BAG MODULE AND 13V-172/24V-428 PASSENGER'S BAG MODULE. I ASKED FOR SERVICE ON THIS WITH NASHVILLE BME BACK IN MARCH 2016 AND HAVE CALLED TWICE TO ASK WHY THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY CAN'T GET PARTS.

MY VEHICLE IS LISTED AS HAVING THE DEFECTIVE TANAKA AIRBAGS. BMW HAS REPLACED THEM WITH OTHER TANAKA AIRBAGS WHICH NOW HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE ASKED THE LOCAL BMW DEALER TO INSTALL THE SWEDISH AIRBAGS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE AND FIT MY VEHICLE, BUT THEY CLAIM BMW HEADQUARTERS WILL NOT AGREE TO HAVE THEM DO THIS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH LETHAL EQUIPMENT FOR MONTHS BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER CAR TO USE, AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS, NOT ONLY FOR ME BUT FOR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROADS. IS IT NOT YOUR DUTY, YOUR WORK, TO FORCE THIS MANUFACTURER TO IMMEDIATELY PUT SAFE EQUIPMENT IN MY CAR?
