NHTSA Complaint about VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:SWITCH/WIRING filed May 3, 2005

NHTSA complaint #533297 (ODI reference 10119645) concerns a 1998 CHEVROLET BLAZER and was filed on May 3, 2005. The owner reports the failure occurred on April 1, 2005. The vehicle had 52,001 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Indiana based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CHEVROLET BLAZER cohort independently describe similar visibility:windshield wiper/washer:switch/wiring failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

WHILE DRIVING TO TENN. FOR AN IMPORTANT EVENT, IN THE RAIN- OUR WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT AND WILL ONLY WORK ON AND OFF. THEY WOULD JUST STOP IN THE VERTICLE POSTION BLOCKING MY HUSBANDS VIEW AND WE WOULD HAVE TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PUSH THEM DOWN IN THE RAIN. THEY STILL WORK PART TIME. THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND THIS IS THE RAINY SEASON. I HAVE ALMOOST BENN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS. BEING MY ONLY VEHICLE I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE A CHANCE. I CHECKED ON THE VIN NUMBER WITH NO LUCK ON A RECALL. I CALLED GM THEY SUGGESTED I GET AN ANALYSIS.
