NHTSA Complaint about BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA filed February 13, 2026
NHTSA complaint #2176448 (ODI reference 11717731) concerns a 2022 POLESTAR POLESTAR 2 and was filed on February 13, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 30, 2025. The report was geocoded to New Jersey based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as back over prevention: sensing system: camera, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same POLESTAR POLESTAR 2 cohort independently describe similar back over prevention: sensing system: camera failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The polestar 2 continues to be unsafe. When reversing the rear camera freezes up always, and takes minutes to stop lagging, being very unsafe when backing up onto a busy road out of the driveway. One pedal drive glitches and fails to brake when letting off the foot, another safety concern. TCAM and connection issues, my IPhone 16 constantly drops Bluetooth to the car, and when it drops connection it takes a hard reboot to the car for it to connect again. Front suspension knocking and clicking sound. When turning the front struts knock, and when stopping you hear a clicking noise. Polestar sold me a vehicle with a bad 12v battery that went kaput only a few months into ownership. When the 12v battery died I was locked out of my car. Polestar roadside assistance was inept and scratched my garage leaving permanent damage.
