NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING filed January 15, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2166730 (ODI reference 11711237) concerns a 2018 RAM 2500 and was filed on January 15, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on August 14, 2025. The report was geocoded to Virginia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 2500 cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I am in Virginia and received a recall code C0020-01 for general abs fault. The truck continues to beep alerting me of this fact. I need replacement of the hcu. Which i have been told controls the breaking hydraulics. To me this seems to be of concern and could easily cause an accident and injury. This has been occurring since August of 2025 and I have been in contact with the dealership, Blackwell of Danville, VA, since then. On 11/1/25 I went into the dealership for other issues but this problem as well. They told me there is no part available for replacement and hasn't been for over a year. Well we are in a new year so how much longer do I need to wait for my truck to be safe?
