NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING filed January 4, 2026

NHTSA complaint #2162873 (ODI reference 11708678) concerns a 2018 RAM 2500 and was filed on January 4, 2026. The owner reports the failure occurred on December 24, 2022. The report was geocoded to Washington based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 2500 cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

ABS and Electronic Braking System. I have not been able to use cruise control because this problem with my brakes also disabled my cruise control. I worry about my brakes failing. The part(s) needed to repair this have not been made available so I've been advised to not have it serviced until repair parts can be made available. I have had warning lamps light up on the dash since December of 2022. It's been over three years and RAM is not handling this in a timely fashion. I'm concerned about my brakes failing.
