Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about AIR BAGS filed October 21, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2141690 (ODI reference 11694676) concerns a 2018 INFINITI Q70L and was filed on October 21, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on October 9, 2025. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as air bags, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same INFINITI Q70L cohort independently describe similar air bags failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

I have an immaculately maintained 2018 Infiniti Q70L, but the OCS system began having issues at under 75k miles. Originally, the problem was the passenger seat sensor not detecting someone in the seat, so airbags were disabled. This occured sporadically for a year, but no codes were detectable by dealership. Now the airbag sensor light flashes continually, which began happening a few weeks ago. The dealership has now informed me that the OCS system has internal faults and the entire system must be replaced at a price of nearly $10K. Other years of Infiniti vehicles have already been recalled for the same issues with airbags and sensors, yet the problem persists. Message boards are full of Infiniti owners dealing with this same issue on their vehicles that are also excluded from the recall. This is a known safety issue, and a major defect in manufacturing, due to no fault of the owners of the vehicles. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL.
