NHTSA Complaint about FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS filed April 3, 2025

NHTSA complaint #2079895 (ODI reference 11652522) concerns a 2024 VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS CROSS SPORT and was filed on April 3, 2025. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 30, 2025. The report was geocoded to Tennessee based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as forward collision avoidance: warnings, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same VOLKSWAGEN ATLAS CROSS SPORT cohort independently describe similar forward collision avoidance: warnings failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. Did not see or hear any object strike windshield. Began as a 6 inch crack from roof to rearview mirror and crack continues to spread and extend across windshield without any cause. The weather has been warm and no frost or cold yet crack grows 3 inches a day. Windshield wipers do not come on, collision warning goes off for no reason but does not go off when I was nearly hit headon, driver assist and lane departure does not work at all. I attempted to get Volkswagen dealership to repair for warranty and extended "Platinum Protection" plan but they refused. I have filed an insurance claim with my carrier.
