NHTSA complaint #2044080 (ODI reference 11627923) concerns a 2014 NISSAN PATHFINDER and was filed on November 29, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on June 23, 2023. The vehicle had 160,000 miles on the odometer at the time of the incident. The report was geocoded to Pennsylvania based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as structure:interior panels:sun visor, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same NISSAN PATHFINDER cohort independently describe similar structure:interior panels:sun visor failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that upon closing the hood, the hood failed to latch securely. The contact released the hood release lever on the secondary hood latch, allowing the hood lock release cable to hold the hood in place and to prevent the hood from unexpectedly opening. Additionally, the contact stated that the front driver's side sun visor clips had fractured, causing the sun visor to lower, obstructing the visibility of the roadway while driving. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V420000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the contact that there was no failure with the secondary latch. The dealer lubricated the hood lock assembly and the secondary hood latch; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
