2024 CADILLAC LYRIQ — Complaint #2029091
Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about BACK OVER PREVENTION: AUTOMATIC SYSTEM BRAKING filed October 1, 2024
NHTSA complaint #2029091 (ODI reference 11617511) concerns a 2024 CADILLAC LYRIQ and was filed on October 1, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 26, 2024. The report was geocoded to North Carolina based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as back over prevention: automatic system braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CADILLAC LYRIQ cohort independently describe similar back over prevention: automatic system braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2024 CADILLAC LYRIQ shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
Each time it rains and the car is in reverse, the emergency braking system kicks in repeatedly, and a red light flashes on the screen. The car believes there is an object or person behind the car; I would imagine because the rear camera can see the rain. It is difficult to even move the car at all, and is a major safety concern. The last time this occurred, I was backing out of my driveway at a slow speed. This also occurred backing out of a parking spot at a slow speed. I hesitate to drive this car in rain because of the issue. In speaking with the dealership's repair personnel, this occurs on every Lyriq. In fact, there was another Lyriq in for that complaint at the same time. I cannot attach photos or a video, as doing so would be unsafe. However, it can be easily re-created in any Lyriq.
