NHTSA Complaint about BACK OVER PREVENTION: AUTOMATIC SYSTEM BRAKING filed September 5, 2024

NHTSA complaint #2022234 (ODI reference 11612728) concerns a 2024 CADILLAC LYRIQ and was filed on September 5, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 3, 2024. The report was geocoded to Missouri based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as back over prevention: automatic system braking, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same CADILLAC LYRIQ cohort independently describe similar back over prevention: automatic system braking failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. The Lyriq is not a car that I drive very often so when the incidents occurred in the last 2 of the 3 times of driving the car it makes me scared to drive the car again. The first incident occurred while driving at approximately 35 mph. The road I was on had 4 lanes with a turn lane in the middle dividing the 4 lanes with 2 lanes on each side of the turn lane. The road carries moderately heavy traffic as it has many businesses (fast food restaurants, strip malls, etc.) I was driving in the left lane when a truck in the on coming traffic entered the middle turn lane and a vehicle ahead of me entered the lane to the right of me. Neither vehicle crossed the line of the lane I was in. This is normal traffic for the type of road I was on. I know there have been reports of rain interfering with sensors in the past, but this day was clear. My vehicle flashed a red collision warning and engaged the aut
