Open-data reference.
NHTSA Complaint about POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION filed March 13, 2024
NHTSA complaint #1974911 (ODI reference 11577117) concerns a 2019 RAM 1500 and was filed on March 13, 2024. The owner reports the failure occurred on March 12, 2024. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as power train:automatic transmission, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.
The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.
Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM 1500 cohort independently describe similar power train:automatic transmission failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Related filings for the same vehicle and component appear below, and the detail page for the full 2019 RAM 1500 shows the complete component-level complaint distribution alongside any active investigations or recalls.
Complaint Description
I just bought my 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel mileage with 47,832 miles. My truck was stuck in park and it took me several minutes shutting my truck on and off and messing with the knob changing gears before I was finally able to get my truck in gear. Fast forward three days now I am getting a warning light to "service shifter". In doing research trying to find more information I have discovered several Ram truck owners are or have experienced the same issue. This is a safety issue for many reasons. As a female I am worried about getting stuck somewhere and being put in a unsafe situation. From all the complaints I read on line I feel strongly that this needs to be looked into.
