Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM filed November 15, 2023

NHTSA complaint #1943264 (ODI reference 11555246) concerns a 2016 FORD TRANSIT and was filed on November 15, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on February 24, 2021. The report was geocoded to Florida based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as fuel/propulsion system, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same FORD TRANSIT cohort independently describe similar fuel/propulsion system failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

Vehicle goes into "limp" mode while on highway losing the ability to control the acceleration. The van has to coast to a stop, turn off the engine, then restart. The throttle body was replaced twice (3/2/21 and 11/21/22). This causes a major safety risk for the driver, passenger and all other drivers on the road. Losing control of the vehicle mechanically without warning and in such a sporadic fashion is unacceptable at this age and mileage. 170,245 miles & 219,118 miles.
