NHTSA Complaint about LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING filed September 12, 2023

NHTSA complaint #1927054 (ODI reference 11544051) concerns a 2023 KIA TELLURIDE and was filed on September 12, 2023. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 10, 2023. The report was geocoded to Georgia based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as lane departure: warning, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same KIA TELLURIDE cohort independently describe similar lane departure: warning failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

The Driver Attention Warning (DAW), specifically the 'Take a Break' alert is too sensitive and persistent, without the option to disable. The 'Take a Break' alert both displays a message and emits an audible alert (5 or so dings). The alert occurs too frequently, no matter who is driving, which is a distraction in itself. The warning has increased in frequency over time. There is no known way to disable, re-calibrate, or reset this alert as in previous models. While intended to be a safety 'feature' it is the exact opposite as it is an additional distraction and removes the driver's attention when acknowledging the overly sensitive dash warning.
