Open-data reference.

NHTSA Complaint about EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER filed October 10, 2022

NHTSA complaint #1846716 (ODI reference 11488713) concerns a 2021 RAM PROMASTER and was filed on October 10, 2022. The owner reports the failure occurred on September 28, 2022. The report was geocoded to California based on the filer's self-reported location. The affected component is categorized as equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer, one of NHTSA's standardized taxonomy codes used to group defect patterns across make, model, and year.

The filer flagged the following severity indicators: crash: no, fire: no, injuries: 0, fatalities: 0. No crash, fire, or fatality was associated with this report, which places it in the early-warning stream rather than the priority-review stream. Because a VIN was supplied, this complaint is tied to a specific vehicle and not just a model-year cohort.

Individual complaints are consumer-submitted and unverified by NHTSA engineers — the agency's role at this stage is to collect, index, and make them searchable. What matters for federal action is the pattern: when many owners of the same RAM PROMASTER cohort independently describe similar equipment:recreational vehicle/trailer failures, defect investigators have grounds to open a PE and request manufacturer data. Complaint Description

While driving my winnebago Travato, we heard a sudden loud noise from the passenger side. We immediately stopped the van in the middle of the street, looked out the side and noticed that our awning was hanging off the side of the RV We turned on the hazard lights and went outside. Once outside, we realized the awning had completely broken down, unfurled, and was dragging on the street. One of the arms even broke in half and fell off. There was absolutely no warning whatsoever and we were in shock when it happened, especially since we were in the middle of a busy street and there were many cars around us.
